Why DFW Homeowners Are Removing Their Pools

The reasons vary. The outcome is the same — more usable yard, fewer costs, and less liability.

Pool removal is one of the most practical improvements a Dallas–Fort Worth homeowner can make, particularly on a pool that has stopped earning its keep.

  • End the maintenance costs — chemicals, equipment, service contracts
  • Reduce homeowner’s insurance exposure, since a pool is a significant liability
  • Reclaim the yard for outdoor living, lawn, or a future structure
  • Improve sale appeal — many North Texas buyers prefer a yard without a pool
  • Remove a safety hazard, especially with young children or elderly residents
  • Deal with a pool that is beyond cost-effective repair once and for all

Complete Removal vs. Partial Fill-In

Two different jobs, with different consequences for what you can do with the space afterwards.

Complete Pool Removal (Full Demo)

The entire pool structure is demolished and removed — concrete, steel and all materials hauled off the property. The excavation is backfilled, compacted and graded to match the surrounding yard.

A fully removed pool leaves no underground remnants and places no restrictions on what can be built above it. This is the right approach if you plan to build over the area, or simply want maximum flexibility later.

Partial Pool Removal (Fill-In)

The top portion of the shell is demolished and removed. The lower structure is broken apart so water cannot accumulate, and the cavity is backfilled and compacted.

It costs less, but it does leave underground remnants that must be disclosed in a property sale and may limit construction directly above the former pool.

Not sure which you need? Nathan will recommend the right option at the free quote. If you intend to build a structure, an addition or significant landscaping above the former pool, full removal is always the appropriate choice.

How Pool Removal Works

  1. Free on-site quote

Nathan assesses the pool type, the access and the site conditions, then gives you a written quote. Same day or next day.

  2. Permits & draining

We obtain the demolition permits from your municipality, then drain the pool in compliance with local regulations.

  3. Demolition & debris

The structure is broken down — completely, or partially if you chose the fill-in — and every bit of material is hauled off.

  4. Backfill & final grade

Engineered fill compacted in lifts to prevent settling, then the surface graded level and clean.

Pool Removal FAQs

How much does pool removal cost in DFW?

Cost in the Dallas–Fort Worth area depends on pool size, type (gunite, fiberglass, vinyl liner), site access, and whether you choose full or partial removal. Most residential pool removals here run from $5,000 to $18,000. Nathan provides a free on-site quote so you have an accurate number for your specific pool rather than a range.

How long does pool removal take?

Most residential pool removals are completed in two to four days depending on the pool’s size and type and how accessible the site is. Nathan gives you a realistic timeline during the free quote.

What is the difference between full and partial pool removal?

Full removal takes out the entire structure, leaving no underground remnants. Partial removal takes out the top of the shell and fills the cavity — lower cost, but with limits on future use of the area and a disclosure requirement in a property sale. Nathan will help you choose for your situation.

Can I build a structure or addition above the former pool area?

With complete removal, yes — there are no structural remnants underground and no restrictions on building above it. With partial removal, building directly above the filled area is not recommended without an engineering assessment. Tell Nathan your plans and he will advise on the right option.

Do I need a permit to remove a pool in Texas?

Yes. Pool removal requires a demolition permit in most DFW municipalities. We obtain every required permit as part of the project, so you do not need to coordinate with the city.

Will my yard be level after pool removal?

Yes. Final grading is included in every quote. Your yard is left level and clean when the crew departs, ready for grass seed, sod, landscaping or whatever you plan for the space.

Is your pool removal pricing guaranteed?

Yes, unconditionally. The price Nathan quotes at the quote is the price on your final invoice. We do not add line items or issue change orders after a project starts — permits, demolition, debris, backfill, compaction and grading are all in the one price.

How quickly can I get a quote for pool removal?

Nathan offers free on-site quotes with same-day or next-day availability across most of the DFW metroplex. He comes to your property, reviews the pool, and gives you a clear written quote covering every step — no cost, no obligation.

Will pool removal affect my home’s value?

In most cases the effect on resale value is neutral to positive for DFW properties, particularly where the pool was unused, aging or a liability. Many buyers in North Texas actively prefer a yard without one. Your real estate agent can give the best guidance for your specific property.

Do you remove all types of pools?

Yes — gunite and concrete pools, fiberglass pools, and vinyl liner pools, across the DFW area.

Do you fill pools with water?

No. We do not fill pools with water, repair pools, resurface pools, or provide any pool maintenance or upkeep. We specialize exclusively in pool removal — complete demolition, debris removal, backfill, compaction and grading. If you are looking for someone to refill or service a pool, that is not what we do.

Do you do general landscaping?

No. DFW Retaining Walls and Pool Demo provides two services: retaining wall installation and pool removal. We do not offer general landscaping, lawn care, patios, fencing, or any other work outside those two specialties.

Who You Actually Deal With

Nathan Rodriguez

General Manager · On site, every job

Nathan runs every DFW job personally. He is a Fort Worth native with more than 20 years of hands-on residential construction experience, and he walks the site for the quote, is there when the demolition starts, and signs off the final grade himself.

That is also why the quoted price holds. The person who priced the work is the person standing in your yard, so nothing gets discovered later that should have been seen on day one.
